The water on the Red River has stabilized, greatly increasing the quality of catfishing in the past week.
Last week I said "I have seen more fish moving into the outside seams and faster water." This week the fish are in those mid-river holes with faster current and it is game on following the spawn! I am still using five-ounce sinkers because of a few of the spots I am fishing, but four ounces of weight is working fine in most places. Sit times have shortened to about 10 minutes, but I have still been staying for 20 to 25 minutes to make sure I am getting the most out of a spot.
Dead sucker is still my preferred bait but frogs are working well. Goldeye works I am sure but I have not committed much time to it yet.
I am on fish and have days available for guiding beginning July 28. Call or text 701-739-5808 for information or to book.
This Friday and Saturday is the Cats Incredible fishing tournament in East Grand Forks. The Catfish Capital Challenge in Drayton with a $10,000 guaranteed first place prize is August 9 and 10. A few spots remain in both events.
