BOWIE, Md. — The Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, secured a 3-0 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, at Prince George's Stadium on Tuesday night. The win marked Bowie's seventh shutout of the season.
Bowie (5-3, 37-39) limited Richmond (2-6, 36-41) to just three hits throughout the game. The Baysox took an early lead in the first inning with an RBI groundout from Matthew Etzel off Richmond's starting pitcher, Dylan Cumming (L, 0-3). Etzel, who had an impressive game, reached base three times, including two hits and a walk, and recorded his second triple at Double-A.
Kyle Brnovich (W, 6-2), the starting pitcher for Bowie, delivered a stellar performance with five scoreless innings, allowing only three hits, no walks, and striking out four. This marked his third scoreless start of the season, lowering his ERA to 2.72 in 10 starts.
Frederick Bencosme extended Bowie's lead in the fifth inning with an RBI single to left field. Bencosme, ranked as the Orioles' No. 27 prospect, has now reached base in 16 consecutive games, the fourth longest active streak in the league. Bowie's bullpen, featuring right-handers Dylan Heid and Dan Hammer (S, 2), continued the strong performance by retiring the final 12 batters consecutively. Heid, who entered in the sixth inning, pitched three perfect innings with three strikeouts, improving his ERA to 1.14 in 39.1 innings this season. Hammer sealed the victory with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, including two strikeouts, earning his second save of the season.
The Baysox will conclude their three-game home series against the Flying Squirrels on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. at Prince George's Stadium. Bowie's RHP Seth Johnson (5-2, 2.88 ERA) will face Richmond's LHP Seth Lonsway (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
Wednesday's game will feature an Independence Day celebration, including the largest fireworks display of the season. Additionally, Baysox Game Worn 4th of July jerseys will be auctioned to benefit Promise Land Farm.
