In late June I drove to the School Canyon Trailhead on the east side of the Badger Creek Wilderness. This is a very enjoyable mid-elevation hike.
It was an oak-savannah habitat with much sign of mule deer and a few elk. I stayed on the trail for several miles as it climbed to Ball Point. The views of Mt. Jefferson were supurb, as was the long vistas over the farmlands of Central Oregon.
