Daily writing prompt
Was today typical?
Don't know yet. Today hasn't happened much seeing as it's only 6:30am here at the "old homestead" along the shores of the Bay of Fundy.
Now yesterday, Sunday was typical(I think).
But, before punching away at today's prompt - what defines typical? Does it mean exactly the same; or close to being the same; or perhaps the same(typical) and something moderately neat or exciting happened?
Maybe trying to define what "typical" is or isn't doesn't make much of a difference in the case. What is typical for me, might not be typical for anyone else. If you typically work on a Sunday(and worked yesterday), then your day isn't anything like mine was yesterday.
Although, for many years I did work Sundays(for stretches) so I feel for you guys in the Sunday working group.
Yesterday, was just about as typical a day as one might get, at least for us. Honestly, being retired results in significant times when we can't tell one day from the next. I often find myself looking at my phone to see if it is Friday, Saturday or some other day of the week.
Once the sun gets up and starts shining, we usually head out onto the back deck(as we did yesterday) and literally if we're not going any place, we can spend the whole day outside. That was how much of Sunday was for Lynn. But, she did do a load of laundry.
I, on the other hand, did a bit of construction work in the morning. I soundproofed the wall between the downstairs bathroom and laundry room and then nailed up drywall in anticipation of putting the first coat of "mud" or drywall compound on this morning.
After all that "stuff" got done, we spent the rest of Sunday afternoon streaming the baseball game outside.
Typical means in many ways, having the same characteristics of a group. And for most folks, days do tend to be typical. Wake up; work; come home; bed ......repeat. Or some variation of that.
No day is exactly the same as any other day. Sure, you may get up near the same time each morning and have pretty much the same routine and once you get to work, you do accounts receivable for eight hours. But, it is the variations within the day that differentiate one day from the next.
And ultimately, that is pretty much what a typical day is. Sort the same things but with a bit of variation mixed in.
