Vintage cars and planes were on display Saturday morning at the Watts-Woodland Airport as part of the Woodland Sunrise Rotary Club's monthly display event.
From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., dozens of residents had the chance to talk with the pilots and drivers who had something on display at the airport located at 17992 Co Road 94B, just west of Woodland and next to Yolo Fliers Club, while enjoying a hearty breakfast or lunch provided by the Sunrise Rotary Club.
"It's a relaxed event to bring your family to," said airport owner and Woodland Sunrise Rotary Club member Bruce Watts. "It's fun for kids to come see some planes. We had a good crowd early, but we had some competition with other car shows going on, and it being Father's Day weekend."
Watts mentioned that the event has been going on for the past two years and that he hopes the next day of display, which is set for the third Saturday in July, can draw a larger crowd. The $15 breakfast and lunch proceeds go towards scholarships for high school seniors pursuing careers in aviation or the trades. Five scholarships were awarded to Esparto, Pioneer, Winters and Woodland High School graduates in June.
"We want students to know these scholarships are aimed towards vocational students," he said. "We want to make sure that students understand these are available and that you don't have to be a 4.0 student to get it."
The club's raffle prize, a 1971 Chevrolet C-10 truck, will once again be on display for the upcoming July 20 event, with tickets available for sale. The raffle winner will be selected on Oct. 5 at the club's "Chevy to the Levee" annual Salmon/Tri-Tip BBQ fundraiser in Waite Hall at the Yolo County Fairgrounds.
The winner does not need not be present to win. All funds the club raises benefit the Woodland/Yolo community.
