LEONARDTOWN, MD – The Commissioners of St. Mary's County (CSMC) opened their recent business meeting with the customary invocation and pledge of allegiance, promptly moving to the approval of the consent agenda.
In a ceremony of recognition, the CSMC presented proclamations for National Certified Nursing Assistant Week and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The Commissioners also celebrated the achievements of Leonardtown High School's Softball and Baseball teams, which both secured Maryland State Championships. Additionally, Kayla Rorie of Great Mills High School received a commendation for her state championship win in the 100-meter hurdles.


The primary agenda item of the meeting saw the Commissioners approving the Board of Education's fiscal year 2025 (FY2025) budget and its corresponding quarterly payment schedule, ensuring that the educational institutions in the county are well-funded for the upcoming year.
During the County Administrator Time, the Commissioners took several actions:
- They reviewed the future agendas for upcoming CSMC meetings.
- Approved an Inter-Governmental Agency Agreement with the Department of Social Services on behalf of the Local Management Board, aimed at Poverty Alleviation System and Circles USA initiatives.
- Approved the FY2025 Memorandum of Understanding with Visit St. Mary's MD, bolstering tourism efforts.
- Renewed the Memorandum of Agreement with the College of Southern Maryland to continue supporting Small Business Development Center services into FY2025.
- Approved Program Open Space development applications, including the Chancellors Run Regional Park LED Light Retrofit project, to enhance local recreational facilities.
The meeting concluded with Commissioner Time, during which the Commissioners shared updates and remarks.
Looking ahead, the CSMC will not convene on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. The next business meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 9 a.m. in the CSMC Meeting Room, located on the first floor of the Chesapeake Building at 41770 Baldridge Street in Leonardtown.
