PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) is currently accepting applications for the newly established Student Safety and Well-being Advisory Committee. Applications will be accepted through Friday, June 7. This announcement follows the adoption of a resolution on May 29, which outlines the committee's creation, its authority, membership structure, and administrative responsibilities.
The advisory committee is tasked with gathering community and expert input to make informed recommendations to the BOCC, aiming to enhance the safety and security of students and staff. The committee will work in coordination with the Office of the County Administrator to receive necessary staff support.
Committee Composition
The Student Safety and Well-being Advisory Committee will consist of 15 voting members who will serve voluntarily without compensation. The composition is as follows:
- One appointee from the BOCC
- Two residents each from Districts 1, 2, and 3
- One representative from the Calvert Education Association
- One representative from the Calvert Association of Educational Support Staff
- Two representatives from the Sheriff's Office
- One representative from the Maryland State Police Barrack U
- One member with a background in mental health and well-being
- One member with a background in substance abuse treatment
- One representative from the Maryland Center for School Safety
Nonvoting members will include:
- The Deputy County Administrator
- The Community Resources Director
- The Communications & Media Relations Director
- The Superintendent of Calvert County Public Schools
