A Charles County man recently struck gold with a $50,000 prize from the Maryland Lottery's 20X The Cash scratch-off game, turning a routine stop at a local restaurant into an unforgettable moment.
The loyal lottery enthusiast, who has a penchant for scratch-off games, purchased several tickets during a visit to Bubba's Place in Newburg over the weekend. Among his selections was the 20X The Cash instant ticket, which ultimately led to his substantial win.
Upon returning home, the Southern Maryland resident began his usual ritual of scratching off the numbers first, looking for any matches. Despite not matching any winning numbers, he unveiled a 10X symbol that revealed a $5,000 prize underneath. This multiplier boosted his total winnings to the game's top prize of $50,000.
"I just stared at the ticket, thinking, 'This can't be right,'" he recounted when claiming his prize at the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. Overwhelmed with disbelief, he immediately shared the news with his wife.
"She was just as shocked but also happy about the win," he added. The couple, seated in the Winner's Circle, described their elation. "It's a great feeling," his wife said, beaming with joy.
The couple plans to mark their victory with a special dinner and a vacation. Beyond their immediate celebrations, they intend to deposit the remainder of their winnings into their savings account, ensuring their windfall supports their future financial security.
Bubba's Place, the store that sold the winning ticket, will also share in the excitement. Located at 15486 Rock Point Road, the retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off ticket.
The 20X The Cash game, which debuted in January, offers eight $50,000 top prizes, with four still available. Additionally, there are four remaining $5,000 prizes, alongside hundreds of thousands of smaller prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000. As part of the X The Cash family, this game includes a second-chance promotion, allowing players to enter non-winning tickets for a shot at $50,000 and $75,000 prizes in upcoming drawings this month and in July. Detailed information on the second-chance promotion can be found here.
