Well it's Thursday again, and it's crappy weather. I woke up this morning sorely disappointed since we have been spoiled recently with such nice weather!
I have not been out to fish recently, however I will be getting on the saltwater with some ladies in the next couple of weeks and cannot wait to chase some stripers! My brother did make a couple bank sends this week and was able to find some bass on nedrigs from shore.
Shawn the Fisherman got out on Sunday on 2 Central Mass ponds where he reported that the water temperatures were in the 70's for both. He mentioned that both were relatively shallow, stained waters with plenty of laydowns and that Bluegills were on beds with Largemouth lurking nearby. Shawn said that he stuck with a bass jig all day, and was rewarded with 4 fish over 16 inches, including a 20.5 inch fatty that he said he believed was snacking on said Bluegills.
He said that the fish seem to be transitioning to their summer patterns, which is the wheelhouse for most folks. Fish to your strengths this summer and you'll be sure to get on fish. And remember to stay safe, be polite to other folks on the water, and to always clean up after yourselves this summer!
Tim TJS hit up Quaboag Pond for a pre-fishing outing and then an individual tournament for his club. He said that on pre-fishing day water temperatures in the river started at 65 degrees. Tim said that they bought some quality fish throwing Texas rigged stream kc worms to the edges of weeds. What we figured out was that the fish we were catching were fry guarders.
Next they went to the main lake where water temps were in the low 70's and they were able to coax a few more fish on ned rigs and a weighted flute worm in the scattered weeds. Tim said that on tournament day it proved to be totally different pattern than on their pre-fishing day and he only had one small keeper in the boat by noon which came on a Texas rigged Senko. Then he tried my ned rig and weighted worm in the weeds but came up empty and then a buzzbait drew one 8 inch non keeper. A little after noon Tim switched up and started throwing a soft plastic swim bait up tight to shore and started to get cut off- damn pickerel. Where there's pickerel, there's usually bass so I kept at it! I'm glad I did, the bass started hitting?I was able to. I'll out my limit to finish second with 12 lbs for 5 fish.
Cousin Jon got out this week too! Lucky for him and Sam their friends were kind enough to get married on "free fishing" day in NH! They were able to get out on a smaller lake near Lake Winnipesaukee. Jon said that the bite was on with ned rigged creature baits for smallies and largemouth. They were also hot on lipless crank baits in natural patterns.
Jon also hit Tim's favorite local spot this week. The bass we're mostly around docks hitting grubs trolling for my wife and her friend, and they also hit lipless crank baits.
Like Shawn said, the fish are starting to follow summer patterns. WHAT a better time than to get in on the Jigs & Bigs Tournaments and there are currently two open for registration.
Jigs & Bigs is hosting a nationwide BASS SLOT tourney, now this sounds like a lot of fun! Catch and submit as many 12-17 inch bass as you can within the allotted 8 hours with no limit! At the end of the event the angler with the highest cumulative score wins! You can register here on the Fishing Chaos app and start getting your bass fishing on! Reigstraiton is open until 06/28!
The JUNE J&B Scavenger Hunt! Having fishing the May version of this tournament, and not doing well at all, I have to say IT'S A BLAST! You get out and target as many species as you can, which leads to finding new places to fish and more fish to target! You can register here on the fishing chaos app! If you're on the fence read the rules and get after it because registration closes on Saturday the 8th!
Get out there and get after it folks! Stay safe and have fun; tight lines!
