This year I took more grad photos than any year previously and had such a fun time with all of my lovely clients! I like to tailor each session to the client and their personality, which leads to photos that bring out what makes them, them.
For this client and her friends I opted for fun and playful photos that emphasized her own artistry as an art major, and edited with a light and airy feeling.
For this couple I focused on color and expression, as well as their welcoming personalities, both being education majors. I also added in gif as part of their package, made in Photoshop using these steps.
For this solo session I again focused on her artistic personality as an art major, really playing with existing color through flowers and nature. After seeing my photos from my feminist portrait series, she asked if we could do something similar, and the results were super fun!
For grad sessions I offer three package options that are all customizable. This allows clients to have more freedom which leads to more comfortability and ultimately I think a better grad photo experience. The packages are mainly based on number of digital images and physical prints. Package 1 comes with 50 digital images and two 8x10s, package 2 with 75 digital images and three 8x10s, and package 3 comes with 100 digital images and five 8x10s. Each package can be made into a double or group session, and there are no limits on outfit changes or locations within walking distance.
As a student and beginner professional I was unsure of how to price my work, and as an artist it is hard considering how personal it can be. When deciding how to price each package I looked at other photographers in the area and how much they charge and what they include for their clients. This helped me see what I liked about pricing systems, and what I didn't. I decided early on I didn't want my clients to feel nickel and dimed for different ad ons that weren't too elaborate, so I made clear in my advertising that sessions were an open ended book for clients to finish writing. While we may start with all of the same standard shots, I love when a client comes with ideas of what they want that might be more untraditional. Each photographer has their own way of pricing and things that they like doing, and I love seeing how each person functions as a professional. If you're an artist and struggling to price your work, don't be afraid to ask for what you know it is worth, as well as asking others where to start!
