Representation for all, we are 'better together'

It feels like we were in the midst of our local primaries just yesterday, and now we are rapidly approaching a crucial general election. As the race for the position of District 1 Supervisor gains momentum in Lake County, I would like to share some insights.

Our communities are not just a group of individuals but a united force capable of shaping a brighter, more prosperous future for ourselves and our children. This shared vision compelled me to run for office on March 5. I strongly believe in representation for all, hearing all voices, and making the best decisions with the aid of the most competent public servants we can find. The stakes are too high, we cannot afford to maintain the status quo. It would be foolish to spend four more years of taxpayer funds on insular, ineffective, inexperienced leaders, as we have all too often. The people of this county deserve to get their money's worth because it is their money. We need a leader who is ready to hit the ground running, someone who is qualified, passionate, intelligent, and experienced to serve as our County Supervisor.

I am happy to endorse John Hess for County Supervisor. I believe that he can and will get the people's business done.  As someone who gave John a run for his money, I can attest that he is knowledgeable, intelligent, ethical, and principled. Even when facing the opposition that I brought, John didn't back down or get in the mud. He is locally minded and solutions-focused. I believe that he will serve honorably and effectively, much like he has run his campaign. I respect John and am certain he is the right man for the job. Do we agree on every point or issue? No, but he does take the time to listen, engage, and seek equitable resolution. Our people, all the people of our communities, are John's priority. John is not beholden to special interests, wealthy donors, or party politics. I believe that we have a clear choice in this election and that all concerns will be best heard and represented by John Hess.

Politics can be very divisive, understandably so at times. Red/Blue, R vs. D, Liberal vs. Conservative; John Hess has a long track record as a diligent bipartisan public servant, not as a politician. He has served in bi-partisan roles, working with folks of all different political affiliations, always seeking the best for all people. John has served in the director role of a community non-profit and has honorably served our county, state, and country. John Hess is the best choice for our people, communities, and county. I hope you will join me in voting for John Hess for District 1 Supervisor of Lake County this November because "We Are Better Together."

Celebrations and safety

Americans sport the red, white and blue in summer at parks, beaches, and ball games.  Keep festivities fun and safe.

Notice the increase of DUI arrests in the last two years on the 4th of July weekend:  for 2022, the California Highway Patrol made 998 DUI arrests on the 4th of July weekend.  In 2023, ABC10 News in Sacramento reported 1,224 DUI arrests were made in California that weekend.

I am puzzled with the stats.  Why can't drinkers learn to remain sober if driving?  A drunken driver hit me when I was 16 in 1992.  After 30-plus years I can walk okay, but my hearing is damaged and I have a deep tone to my voice.  My life changed personally, physically, and socially.

Taking State Route 20 to and from a gathering?  Think before you drink.  People will drink, but it is illegal if you drive drunk.  Don't take chances:  have a sober driver transport you if you had one too many.  Save lives and your reputation:  don't drive drunk.
