DUNKIRK, Md. – The Calvert County Sheriff's Office has charged Brian Arnell Hall, 35, of Washington D.C., with filing a false police report following an investigation into an alleged armed robbery that never occurred.

On June 4, 2024, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Hall reported an armed robbery at the Safeway Gas Pumps located at 10276 Southern MD Blvd in Dunkirk. He claimed an unknown suspect had approached him with a weapon and demanded his wallet.

However, a thorough investigation by the Calvert County Sheriff's Office, which included reviewing surveillance footage, conducting witness interviews, and employing other investigative techniques, revealed significant inconsistencies in Hall's account. The evidence led to the conclusion that no armed robbery had taken place, and Hall had fabricated the entire incident.

Sheriff Ricky Cox emphasized the seriousness of such false reports, stating, "We take all reports of criminal activity very seriously and allocate significant resources to ensure the safety of our community. False reports not only waste valuable police resources but also create unnecessary fear and anxiety among residents. We are committed to holding individuals accountable for providing false information to law enforcement."

Hall now faces charges of False Statement to a Law Enforcement Officer, a serious offense that underscores the consequences of misleading authorities. The false report consumed valuable police time and resources that could have been directed toward genuine emergencies and community safety efforts.

The Calvert County Sheriff's Office reiterated the importance of accurate and responsible reporting of crimes. "False reporting is a criminal offense and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law," stated the Sheriff's Office. They urge anyone with additional information about this incident or any other crime to contact them at 410-535-2800 or via email at ccsotips@calvertcountymd.gov.

The case serves as a reminder of the critical role the community plays in public safety. Accurate and truthful information helps law enforcement effectively protect and serve the public, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and that real threats are addressed promptly.
