For someone who has an automatic dishwasher I seem to have a problem with dishpan hands. It's amazing how many times during the day I have my hands in water, especially when I'm in the kitchen. I did some deep cleaning Saturday and scrubbed the countertops and polished the top of the stove. It all dries my hands out so much.
I have a nice little lotion and hand soap set in the kitchen as well as another set in my bathroom so I am reminded to use some lotion after I wash my hands. I don't use it as often as I should but I am trying to remember to do a better job. I also keep a larger bottle of the same lotion on the table between the recliners in the living room. Brad keeps a big bottle on his desk.
I get these products from Simplified Soap and they sell plastic refill bags for the glass pump bottles. They are located right here in Texas.
I mentioned the dry skin on my arms and hands when I saw our M.D. the last time. She said to try and use the lotion four or five times a day even if I don't have my hands in water. She's right. My skin soaks up the lotion like a sponge so I need to do a better job about taking care of it.
Of course I make sure my hands are clean before I work on my knitting or spinning and I don't want too much lotion on my hands while I'm working. I spent some time wiping the oil and lube off of my spinning wheel and re-oiling it and my hands were a mess so, back to the sink to wash up. And slather on some lotion. Then I used some furniture polish on a table and my hands were a bit oily so I washed them again and used the lotion again. It's a vicious circle. Perhaps I should consider wearing gloves when I clean. It's been ages since I had a pair of those yellow Playtex gloves. I hate the thin latex ones, they make my hands itch. I could have one pair for the kitchen and another pair for when I polish the furniture.
I need a manicure, too. My cuticles are so dry. I have a bottle of CND Solar Oil that does wonders and I like to use it after I shower and before I go to bed at night. I don't wear nail polish like I used to because I hate the odor of polish remover and it all dries my nails out so badly it just isn't worth it.
I finally managed to get a haircut last week and next time I won't wait so long. I've made a note on my phone calendar and I'll get in for a trim in a month so it's not such a chore. One of the reasons I kept putting it off was because I have had a problem with rosacea on my scalp and the antibiotic gel I use for the spots that pop up on my face wasn't working on my scalp. I mentioned it when I saw the dermatologist a few weeks ago and she called in a steroid ointment to use. It does a wonderful job and now that my hair is very short again...think Pixie haircut...it will be easier to use the ointment without getting it all in my hair where I don't want it.
I don't like to mess with my hair, styling it and all that. It is fine, straight and thin and splits easily so I have learned to keep it short and easy to manage. I call it wash and wear hair. All in all I'm a pretty low maintenance kind of gal. I don't wear makeup anymore, can't stand the way it feels on my skin. Life gets simpler when you get older and don't feel like messing with all that sort of thing. Living in a rural area it's not practical to wear makeup and spend a lot of money on hair stylists and manicures when you work outdoors at all.
Even if you mostly spend time indoors it's much nicer to not have to wear makeup. I stopped wearing perfume in the '70's. I would be outside working in the garden and the danged bees would keep buzzing around me. I wore honeysuckle perfume. Go figure.
It's time to get in gear and think about meals for today. I have three kinds of soup in the big freezer and we still have tuna steaks and salmon fillets as well. Hope your Monday is a good one. Stay safe. Stay cool. God bless, ya'll.
