This fall, up north in New York, Broome County will have an Art Trail from September 21st to the 22nd. The community art trail put on by the Broome County Arts Council, allows artists to display their work with opportunities to sell. This event often features live music and demonstrations in addition to the open art galleries, studios, and museums. There are no attendance fees and artists receive all profits on any made sales. Events like these bring an entire community together in supporting and exposing local artists.
This year there will be four primary sites around throughout the county. These include Binghamton, Johnson City, Endicott, the Town of Maine, Whitney Point, and Vestal. Binghamton, Endicott, and Whitney Point are the hosts of multiple spots which include community centers, studios, and museums.
I am fortunate enough to be participating this year and will be showing my work in the Town of Maine at the old School House. Maine will have a host site at J. Ralph Ingalls School, built in 1940 and formerly used within the school district. The Town of Maine also hosts a Plein Air Painting competition around the same time. Artists are to find a spot in Maine and begin painting in the morning. They are to be placed on an easel in a frame by 4 pm the same day. This town has always been a supporter of local artists so it is nice to see it help form a greater community in Broome County.
I am looking forward to participating and will be working on pieces over the summer. I will primarily be focused on paintings done in both watercolor and oil. I believe it is important to participate in something like this so we can keep it alive and support the town I grew up in.
