Bowie, MD — The Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, endured their fifth consecutive defeat, losing 7-2 to the Altoona Curve, the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, on Sunday afternoon at Prince George's Stadium.
Altoona (29-40) initiated their offensive push early, securing three runs within the first three innings. The scoring began with a sacrifice fly from Connor Scott, followed by an RBI single from Jackson Glenn in the second inning. A throwing error by Bowie's Frederick Bencosme on a ground ball from Kervin Pichardo further extended Altoona's lead to 3-0 by the end of the third inning.
Bowie's starting right-hander Cameron Weston (L, 2-5) pitched three innings, conceding three runs (one earned) on six hits, walking one, and striking out two. With this performance, Weston now has a 1.46 ERA in six home games.
The Baysox (32-36) managed to get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with an RBI groundout from Bencosme. Later in the eighth inning, Bencosme singled to drive in Dylan Beavers, marking his sixth multi-RBI game of the season. Beavers himself stood out with three hits, achieving his fourth three-hit game of the year.
Altoona maintained their momentum with additional runs from the sixth inning onward, highlighted by solo home runs from Charles McAdoo in the seventh inning and Carter Bins in the ninth.
Curve's starting pitcher, Po-Yu Chen (W, 2-6), earned the victory after delivering five solid innings. Chen struck out four batters, allowed two hits, one run, and one walk.
The Baysox defense struggled significantly, committing three errors during the game, accumulating a total of 12 errors throughout the series, the most they've recorded in a single series this season.
This loss solidifies Bowie's longest losing streak of the season, ending the first half of their campaign with a record of 32-36, positioning them fifth in the Eastern League Southwest Division.
Looking ahead, the Baysox will begin the second half of their regular season with an away game at Reading on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. from FirstEnergy Stadium.
