BOWIE, Md. — The Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, clinched their fourth consecutive win with a 6-3 triumph over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets, on Thursday night at Prince George's Stadium.
Bowie (28-25) surged ahead early with a decisive four-run third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Samuel Basallo. Basallo, ranked as baseball's No. 14 prospect by MLB Pipeline, sent a towering shot to right-center field, marking his fourth home run in the last 14 games. This streak has seen him hit safely in 13 of those contests. Basallo's homer also tied him with teammate Jud Fabian for the team lead, each boasting nine home runs this season — the fourth-highest in the Eastern League. Additionally, Basallo extended his on-base streak to 14 games.
Jud Fabian also had a standout performance, singling twice, reaching base three times, stealing two bases, and scoring twice. Fabian scored on an RBI groundout by Silas Ardoin in the third inning, which pushed Bowie's lead to 4-0 and ended the night for Binghamton's starting pitcher, Tyler Stuart, who took the loss (1-4) after allowing four runs in 2.2 innings.
John Rhodes contributed to Bowie's offense with an RBI single in the fourth inning, increasing the lead to 5-0. Rhodes, the Orioles' No. 23 prospect, has accumulated six RBIs over his last four games. In the sixth inning, Collin Burns added to the Baysox's lead with a 394-foot solo home run to right field, his second homer against the Rumble Ponies this season.
Cameron Weston, Bowie's starting right-hander, delivered an impressive performance, pitching five shutout innings, allowing only one hit and two walks while striking out six. This outing, the longest of his Double-A season, earned Weston his second win (2-3) and lowered his ERA to 1.42 in three appearances against Binghamton this season. Dylan Heid provided solid relief, pitching three perfect innings with four strikeouts, bringing his season ERA down to 1.09. Lincoln Henzman, making his debut for Bowie after being acquired on Tuesday, pitched the ninth inning. Despite giving up a three-run homer to Ryan Clifford, Henzman struck out two batters to secure the win for the Baysox.
With this victory, the Baysox have now won seven of their last nine games against the Rumble Ponies. Bowie will continue their six-game home stand against Binghamton tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. The Baysox will start RHP Trace Bright (0-4, 3.60 ERA), while the Rumble Ponies will counter with RHP Joander Suarez (2-3, 4.31 ERA).
