Winters Friends of the Library has announced the lineup for the 2024 Summer Concerts at the Gazebo.
Now in its 26th year hosting concerts and supporting the library, this year's free outdoor concerts will be held on Thursday evenings in July from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Rotary Park in downtown Winters.
The series will kick off on the Fourth of July with Bonanza King playing Western swing, old country and blues.
"Powerhouse singer Kari King fronts the band, trading licks with top-notch guitar, bass, drums and steel guitar players," said a press release from Winters Friends of the Library. "Winters holds its fireworks display on July 3, so this will be a perfect way to celebrate Independence Day. There might even be a patriotic sing-along!"
Local favorites Los Tres de Winters will take the stage on July 11. The group is known for their NorteƱo-style music, a hybrid of Mexican and Spanish vocal traditions with waltzes and polkas brought to Mexico by Czech and German immigrants in the mid-nineteenth century. It evolved in the north of Mexico and is now a favorite style throughout Mexico and the U.S.
On July 18, Big Sticky Mess will take the stage and "bring their funky jams for your grooving pleasure."
"The Davis-based band is a trio of serious players who have mastered the art of getting down and dirty while also spinning sonic velvet and silky soul," the press release continued. "Along with all the funky, soulful grooves, a notable jazz influence adds to the mix. These guys are a light-hearted, fun-loving bunch who put on a fun, quirky, feel-good show."
The series concludes on July 25 with Mandolin Manny and Friends playing modern bluegrass. The group plays originals, traditional standards and classic favorites re-imagined through a bluegrass lens.
"Their sound is steeped in tradition while pushing the boundaries of the string band format and dipping into the many influences of their eclectic collective of musicians," the press release explained.
The concerts are free, but donations will be gratefully accepted. This year's concert series is sponsored by Oates Country Store and Waste Management.
Winters Friends of the Library will have delicious refreshments and quality used books for sale, and all proceeds will support the Winters Community Library. For more information, visit https://wfol.org/.
