After going to mountain bike events like Formation and Rampage with RedBull, I was interested to check out some of their winter happenings like Winter Vibes and Cascade.
Cascade is a freestyle ski competition that incorporates and collaborative and creative twist. Bobby Brown, a slopestyle and freeride skier that Nic and I watched during our formative ski years, founded this epic event that combines big mountain and terrain park features.
This year, each team was captained by the rookies of the event: Jay Riccomini, Rell Hardwood, Marin Hamill, and Svea Irving. In a bracket format style, two teams competed against each other, and the winners were awarded final runs on the second day of the event to fight for the title of Cascade champions. Runs were based on the following categories: Creativity, Speed, Choice of line, Difficulty, and Energy (Style/Flair).
Athletes included Bobby Brown, Birk Irving, Colby Stevenson, and Gus Kentworthy (who apparently only had 6 days on snow this season), as well as several other local Utah riders.
It was truly an amazing event to watch in person, and I was in awe of the talent and passion that shined throughout the weekend. Take a look at what our first day looked like and head to the following articles for more information and details about the event:
