BURLINGAME, CA — The U.S. Postal Service has expanded its Floral Geometry stamp series with a new $1 denomination, adding to the innovative collection that already includes $2 and $5 stamps launched last year and a $10 stamp released earlier this year.
The Floral Geometry series is known for blending intricate geometric designs with floral patterns, inspired by the natural symmetry found in flowers. The new $1 stamp, primarily blue in color, showcases a simpler, yet sophisticated design, featuring overlapping geometric shapes like circles, ovals, and stars. This design strategy aims to represent the complex structure of flowers through abstract shapes.
As with previous stamps in the series, the complexity of the designs increases with the stamp's value. The $1 stamp's design is simpler compared to the highly intricate patterns seen in the higher denomination stamps.
The creation process of these stamps involves a blend of traditional and digital artistry. The background colors are originally hand-painted, then scanned into digital form where white geometric lines and typography are superimposed. A unique foil treatment is applied during printing, giving the stamps a subtle, elegant shimmer.
The design and creation of the Floral Geometry stamps were handled by Spaeth Hill, with Antonio Alcalá serving as the art director. The new $1 stamp is available in panes of 10.
This series not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of mail but also reflects the Postal Service's commitment to marrying art with functionality. The Floral Geometry stamps are ideal for adorning packages, large envelopes, and other significant mailings, offering a modern twist to everyday postal items.
