Woodland Kiwanis Club members are donning their barbecue aprons and firing up the giant grill for their annual "Barbecue Pork Rib Dinner for 4" drive-thru fundraiser happening this Saturday, April 13.
Time is running out for tickets that buy two whole racks of barbecue ribs, coleslaw, beans, cornbread and cookies that will be distributed at the Woodland Community Center, 2001 East St., on Saturday afternoon from 2-5 p.m. Tickets are $95 and can be purchased online at www.woodlandkiwanis.com. All money raised flows back into the community.
"For the past three years, we have donated to disadvantaged children, families and seniors in Woodland in addition to many others," said club president Steve Barzo.
Some of the recent donations include $18,000 in swim scholarships through the Parks and Recreation Department; an $11,000 back to school shopping spree for children; $15,000 for high school scholarships; $1,500 to the Woodland Police Department Toy Distribution and Breakfast; $6,000 to Yolo Food Bank and Meals on Wheels where the club members also volunteer driving hours.
The Woodland Kiwanis Club meets every other Monday at the Woodland Community Center at noon. See their website for more information. The club is a 501(c) 3 non-profit service organization where members work together to improve life for Woodland's youth and elderly. They get a lot of help from their youthful supporters in the Pioneer and Woodland High School Key Clubs, who help in getting the dinners prepared for pickup and distribution.
