Jason Creasy, originally drafted in the eighth round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2011, is making his return to the Blue Crabs after a standout stint in 2018, where he pitched 32 innings with an impressive ERA below two. Following his previous tenure with Southern Maryland, Creasy was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks and later pitched in the Atlanta Braves organization, reaching as high as Double and Triple-A levels from 2019 to 2022. Over his nine-year minor league career, Creasy has accumulated a 36-31 win-loss record across 200 appearances, totaling 600.2 innings pitched. His time with the Blue Crabs in 2018 saw him achieving a 1.96 ERA, the second lowest of his career. Creasy hails from Clayton, North Carolina.
Joining Creasy is Shawn Semple, a native of Vorhees, New Jersey, who has spent six years climbing the ranks in the minor leagues, including reaching Triple-A with the New York Yankees. Drafted in the 11th round in 2017 from the University of New Orleans, Semple has been a versatile pitcher, serving both as a starter and reliever throughout his career. Notably, while with the Double-A Somerset Patriots, he was part of a historic moment in 2021 when he, along with Luis Severino and Ron Marinaccio, threw the first no-hitter in affiliated Somerset history, a milestone shared with two pitchers who have since advanced to the MLB. Semple brings to the Blue Crabs a career record of 32-28 over 451.1 innings, striking out 422 batters, which translates to an impressive 8.4 strikeouts per nine innings.
These signings represent strategic moves by the Blue Crabs to bolster their pitching staff with players who not only bring a wealth of experience from their time in affiliate organizations but also have demonstrated significant achievements and versatility on the mound. As the team gears up for the season, the addition of Creasy and Semple is expected to strengthen their competitiveness and depth, making the Blue Crabs a team to watch in the upcoming campaign.
