A fire broke out on Friday evening at a split foyer single-family dwelling located at 2129 Briarwood Drive in Waldorf, Charles County, Maryland. The incident, reported at 5:48 p.m., saw the swift response of the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the blaze primarily originating from the rear porch of the residence. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the fire was swiftly brought under control within 15 minutes. Despite the prompt response, the structure incurred an estimated loss of $50,000, with an additional $2,000 in damages to contents.
The homeowners, identified as Kimberly and Wilmer Goldring, were not present during the incident. The fire was first noticed by a passer-by who observed flames on the backside of the property. As a result of the fire, the Goldrings have been displaced from their home and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
Smoke alarms were present and activated during the incident. However, the property did not have fire alarm or sprinkler systems installed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by authorities. Officials from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Southern Regional Office, are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 443-550-6835.
The Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department led the response effort, with a total of 40 firefighters mobilized to the scene.
