Lake County Wine Alliance beneficiary application deadline approaching
The Lake County Wine Alliance, a non profit founded in 2000 whose mission of supporting charitable and other local programs in the arts, health, and community, is currently accepting applications for 2024 beneficiaries. Applications are available on the winealliance.org website and the submission deadline is Wednesday May 1.
Raising funds each year at their annual Wine Auction, the LCWA has given over $2,853,752 to local organizations and non profits focused on health and the arts. Last year a total of $226,000 was distributed to over 40 groups including the Lake County High Schools art, music, FFA and culinary programs. Other beneficiaries include Hospice Services, The Lake County Youth Symphony, Jack's Lavender Farm and Operation Tango Mike. Each beneficiary received roughly $5,000 and funds are dispersed after the Wine Auction at the LCWA Benefit.
Ginny Craven, founder of Operation Tango Mike, shared that the organization has been a long time beneficiary of the LCWA. Celebrating their twenty first year this past March, Operation Tango Mike hosts monthly packing parties, sending care packages full of food and personal items to military personnel in deployment. To date Operation Tango Mike has shipped more than 26,000 packages overseas. Craven stated "We are honored to be included as a beneficiary. These funds help us continue our mission of helping military personnel."
The beneficiary application and other information is available on the winealliance.org website. Applications are accepted preferably via digital submission or post marked by May 1. The alliance notes "Please keep in mind before applying that the priorities of the Wine Alliance in choosing beneficiaries for approval are: Health, Education and the Arts with a focus on children and the elderly. You will need to make sure your application aligns with these priorities to be considered. Thank you."

Lifting of boating restrictions due to decreased lake levels in Clear Lake
The Lake County Water Resources Department, Lakebed Management, and Lake County Sheriff's Department Marine Patrol announce the lifting of boating restrictions previously imposed due to high lake levels.
As Clear Lake has dropped below the required level of 8.0 feet on the Rumsey scale for more than 24 hours, Ordinance 3065, which mandates idle speed when boating within one-quarter mile or less from the shore, is now lifted. Boaters are no longer required to operate at idle speed and can resume normal boating activities, effective immediately. (For specific regulations and details on normal boating operations, please refer to the Chapter 15 – Recreation Ordinance on the Municode website)
https://library.municode.com/ca/lake_county/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=COOR_CH15RE
We would like to remind all boaters to continue exercising caution while on Clear Lake. Floating and submerged debris hazards, resulting from winter Atmospheric River storm events may still be present. These hazards include trees, branches, floating docks, abandoned or detached boats, trash, and other objects that can pose a risk to boaters.
Boaters are encouraged to remain vigilant, be aware of their surroundings, and maintain a safe speed when navigating Clear Lake, especially during this time of year.
For any inquiries regarding this update or to report hazards such as debris, floating docks, or missing or found hazard buoys, please contact the Water Resources Department at (707) 263-2344 or email at water.resources@lakecountyca.gov.
