Aguiar-Curry's bill expanding telehealth for reproductive healthcare under Medi-Cal passes Assembly Health Committee
Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D- Winters) announced today that her Assembly Bill 2339 passed the Assembly Health Committee with a vote of 12-0. AB 2339 will expand telehealth access to sexual and reproductive health care services that can be provided for Medi-Cal beneficiaries.
Asynchronous telehealth allows for remote communication between providers and patients, which can reduce waiting times and facilitate faster access to patient-centered care. Studies have shown high rates of safety, effectiveness, and patient acceptability for asynchronous care, comparable to approval rates for in-person care. Asynchronous care can alleviate technological barriers, scheduling constraints, and privacy concerns.
"In 2022, I authored AB 32, the most far-reaching telehealth legislation in the country, to expand access to telehealth services for all Californians. My intention was clear: Medi-Cal patients were to have the same type of access to health services as those fortunate enough to have private coverage," said Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters).
AB 2339 would expand access to sexual and reproductive health care services that can be provided using asynchronous modalities for Medi-Cal beneficiaries. The bill would also authorize a health care provider to establish a new patient relationship using asynchronous telehealth, when requested by the patient for sensitive services. Allowing Medi-Cal beneficiaries to access this form of care will provide equal access to asynchronous telehealth services and give Medi-Cal beneficiaries the same convenient care as their peers with private insurance.

Senior Summit returns – Event celebrates the Give Back Generation
Lake County seniors and elders will be honored at a special event that recognizes their services and many societal contributions at the 5th Annual Senior Summit. Online registration is required for the one-of-a-kind event at www.lakecountysilverfoundation.org. For help with registration, call 916-248-0704.
On May 6 at the Twin Pine Resort & Casino Event Center in Middletown, the Lake County Silver Foundation will again host the Summit – an event featuring Inspirational Senior Awards, a Health and Wellness Faire, speakers, a complimentary lunch, raffles and more. Seniors are encouraged to register early to secure their place for the event. "The last time we held the Summit at Twin Pine, walk-ins had to be turned away," said event organizer Olga Steele.
"Thanks to Lake County sponsors we are able to host the event at no charge to seniors," said Founder and President of the Silver Foundation, Jim Steele.
The Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake have been Major Sponsors since inception. Voted best hospital in Lake and Mendocino Counties, Sutter Lakeside Hospital also signed on this year as a major sponsor and will be on hand at the event to take part in the Health and Wellness Faire.
"We want to thank all sponsors," Steele said. "CalPine and The Sheppers, for instance, have been regular contributors since the beginning."
In addition to the Health and Wellness Fair, a central and popular feature of the event are the Inspirational Senior awards. This year, 13 seniors - nominated by their peers - will be honored.
The Lake County Silver Foundation was formed to improve the quality of life for seniors and raise awareness of the many gaps in services. "The needs of the fastest growing demographic in Lake County, the State and the Nation are also growing," said Steele. "The Summit is one way we can thank and bring services to Lake County seniors and elders."
Summit doors open at 11 AM and the program begins promptly at 12 noon. For more information about the Senior Summit visit the website, lakecountysilverfoundation.com or call 916-248-0704.
