LEONARDTOWN, MD—A tragic accident on Sunday morning resulted in the death of a young motorcyclist and left two others injured, one critically, after a motorcycle collided with an SUV in Hollywood, Maryland.
Authorities were called to the scene at the intersection of Three Notch Road and Tom Hodges Drive at about 10:19 a.m. on April 7, 2024, following reports of a severe collision involving a 2006 Yamaha Motorcycle and a 2008 Hyundai Sonata.
The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office reported that 21-year-old Tiernan Anthony Stephenson from Waldorf, MD, was northbound on Three Notch Road aboard his motorcycle when Stephanie Rose Robey, 36, of Hollywood, MD, attempted to cross the road in her Hyundai from Tom Hodges Drive, directly into the motorcycle's path.
The impact was such that Stephenson, upon colliding with the Hyundai's driver's side rear door, was thrown from his motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. Robey was rushed to MedStar Washington Hospital Center for treatment, while a juvenile passenger from the SUV was airlifted to Children's Hospital in critical condition by Maryland State Police Aviation Trooper 7.
The sheriff's office's Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation to piece together the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash. They are urging witnesses or anyone with information about the accident, who has not yet come forward, to contact Corporal Rachael Roszell at 301-475-4200, extension 8108, or via email at Rachael.Roszell@stmaryscountymd.gov.
This tragic incident has shocked the local community, prompting a renewed focus on road safety and the dangers that intersections can pose to both motorcyclists and drivers alike.
