LEONARDTOWN, MD – A severe motor vehicle crash occurred in Chaptico, MD, on the evening of April 4, 2024, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement and emergency services. The incident, which involved a single vehicle colliding with a tree, resulted in life-threatening injuries for the driver, now reported to be in stable condition.
At approximately 9:24 p.m., patrol units from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the intersection of Maddox Road and Rivendell Way following reports of a crash. Given the serious nature of the crash , the department's Collision Reconstruction Unit was summoned to the scene to undertake a detailed investigation.
Initial findings reveal that a 2011 Blue Ford Crown Victoria, driven by 40-year-old Anita Renee Courtney of Chaptico, MD, was heading west on Maddox Road when the vehicle unexpectedly veered across the center line, resulting in a collision with a tree. Courtney was promptly transported to Washington Hospital Center, where she is currently receiving care for injuries described as life-threatening. Her condition has since been updated to stable, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the unfortunate event.
