Today the Ukiah Daily Journal kicks off its annual Ukiah Boys and Girls Club Spring Fund Drive to support this vital community service.
The Club is critical because it gives young people of all ages a safe place to be either after school, or all day during the schools vacations. The summer vacation is almost upon us and the the Club will be expecting to see a lot of its some 300 members, all local children, show up each day.
The Club has developed over the years with programs for everyone from kindergarten through high school, with many of the older kids helping out with the younger ones. The Club's programs include helping with homework, arts and crafts, outdoor play, nutrition education, mentoring and much more. The kids love to have a safe space to socialize, to play and to learn. Today's front page story has lots of information about our local Cub's wonderful activities.
We host this drive every year because we know how important it is that our local kids aren't sitting home alone or wandering the streets with nothing to do. Working parents need the Club's harbor to ease their minds knowing their children are happy and safe, not feeling bored or troubled at home.
This year we are again asking the community to raise $65,000 for the club. This funding will give the club added resources to pay the small staff and help the many volunteers with materials they need to keep the Club's programs fun and meaningful.
We want to thank our initial kickoff sponsors:
Suzie Hardie in memory of Bob Hardie $5000
Rod & Josie Vargas $5000
Savings Bank of Mendocino County $2000
Peter & Gloria Halstad $150
Lois Jacobs $45
Bob & Lynn Dress-Meadows $25
Richard & Marcia Venne $50 In memory of Bob Hardie
First Christian Church $100
Denise Gorny $25
For a total of $12,395
To give to the campaign, donations can be sent to Boys and Girls Club of Ukiah, P.O. Box 67, Ukiah, CA 95482. Donations can also be dropped off at the UDJ office at 415A Talmage Road. As always we will print the names of all our generous donors as our way of thanking yu for your help. No donations is too small.
Thank you all for keeping this important local Boys and Girls Club alive.
