One of the the first cards that have been calling to me is the Ace of Cups. I had the idea to make a wall hanging inspired by the card. At first I was intimidated about sculpting a hand from clay but I was so excited about the idea that I just went for it! So far I have only the hand finished and I'll be working on the cup soon which will be removable from the hand and I'll be adding the water spouting from the cup also. The Ace of Cups is a card about happiness, newness, celebrations and fertility. When I see it I just think of the cup so full of joy and good things that is flowing over the top! Fertility in tarot cards has a lot more meaning than the fact that there may be a baby in your future, I see it more as creativity and the ability to birth your ideas into reality. To me this card and my art piece will represent an artist overflowing with creativity and love for art, which is my favorite way to be. The card is full of little symbols that are all important to the meaning. There are also many art interpretations of tarot cards, this one is from the Rider- Waite deck, which is the most commonly used and referenced. The hand emerging from the clouds represents the cup as a gift, it is something that is within you, as we are all creative. The cup is a vessel for our subconscious, intuition and creativity, and the water symbolizes the five senses. I'm excited to continue sharing my progress with this piece on here! There are 3 more Ace cards all of different suits and meaning, my goal is to make one hand wall hanging for each. My favorite part about tarot cards as well as art in general is that it can have an intended meaning but it is always up to the individual person and how the art makes them feel that is the most impactful. | | | |
