The multi award-winning Spa at Ramside on the outskirts of Durham is set to unveil a new cold water facility designed to lower stress, boost energy and improve wellbeing
It's installing a Frigidarium - a cold bathing experience - where you can take a quick dip after using the sauna or hydrotherapy pools.
Set to open in April, the cold plunge pool is being fitted in the area close to the hydrotherapy area of the spa.
The Frigidarium will be able to accommodate up to six guests at a time. The temperature is expected to be a bracing 5 degrees C.
Benefits of cold bathing
"This is a great addition to the spa," says Fay Pratt, Spa Director at Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf & Spa.
"Using a plunge pool can lower stress levels, improve concentration and focus, aid the reduction in muscle soreness and boost energy levels.
"It's great for post workout recovery by helping to regular the heartbeat and kickstarting the body's recover process.
"We believe this is the perfect addition to our facilities and one which our spa users will really appreciate."
Taking the plunge
Start with a sauna or steam experience in one of Ramside Spa's four heat rooms before you embrace the cold water.
Then build up gradually with short sessions of two to five minutes, extending to no longer than 10 minutes.
Breathe deeply and slowly which will also help you feel calm.
For maximum benefit, have a post-dip massage to help reduce muscle aches and reduce inflammation.
Ramside Spa is also home to a state-of-the-art gym, outdoor pool, balcony infinity pool, a sleep sanctuary and its own Asian Fusion restaurant.
You can use the Frigidarium if you are staying as a guest or having a spa day.
