Waldorf, Maryland – A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday, March 24, 2024, when a collision between a bicycle and a vehicle resulted in the death of a Maryland man. Maryland State Police reported that the accident occurred around 2:54 p.m. at the intersection of Maryland Route 5 (Mattawoman-Beantown Road) and Pinefield Road.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack, along with a Collision Reconstruction Specialist (CRS) from the MSP Leonardtown Barrack, were dispatched to the scene following the report of the serious motor vehicle collision. TFC M. Posch assumed the lead in the investigation to unravel the details of the crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Brian Christopher Webb, a 33-year-old from Bladensburg, Maryland, was riding his bicycle southbound in the left turn lane of Maryland Route 5, attempting to turn onto Pinefield Road. Concurrently, Amaya Reed, 21, from Lexington Park, Maryland, was driving her Subaru Impreza northbound on the same route. According to investigators, Webb failed to adhere to a steady red traffic signal and entered the path of Reed's vehicle, leading to the collision that ultimately ejected Webb from his bicycle.
Emergency services swiftly responded, and Webb was airlifted to MEDSTAR/Washington Hospital Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The incident has prompted Maryland State Police to call for witnesses.
