In a sorrowful incident on Saturday evening in Indian Head, Maryland, a severe car crash claimed the life of a 56-year-old woman, Janice Marie Dunnington. Maryland State Police responded to the distressing scene in the 4800 block of Livingston Road around 9:52 p.m., following a report of a significant vehicular accident.
The initial investigation, spearheaded by troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack and a Collision Reconstruction Specialist (CRS) from the MSP Leonardtown Barrack, TFC. J. Engleman, uncovered the harrowing details of the event. Janice Marie Dunnington, driving a Honda Civic, veered off the road for unexplained reasons, collided with a tree, and overturned. The vehicle, having re-entered the roadway, slid on its roof before coming to a halt in the southbound lane of Livingston Road. Tragically, Dunnington was ejected from the car during the crash.
Charles County Sheriff's Officers arrived at the scene to find Ms. Dunnington critically injured and immediately performed CPR in an attempt to save her life. Despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries, deemed incompatible with life, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Adding to the chaos, a secondary collision occurred when a Ford Taurus, driven by an unidentified individual, encountered the initial crash site. Unaware of the Honda Civic lying in the roadway, the driver of the Ford Taurus crashed into it. Fortunately, the operator of the Ford escaped the incident without injuries.
The Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack is actively continuing their investigation into the causes and circumstances of the tragic incident. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward and contact the Duty Officer at the MSP La Plata Barrack at (301) 392-1200.
