Daily writing prompt
How often do you say "no" to things that would interfere with your goals?
Goals for what?
Goals in life; goals in terms of profession and work; or goals within the family(suppose that could be lumped in with life).
I may be on sole person on Earth, who does not and let me repeat does not know anyone who has say, "goals for life." There is absolutely no one that I know that has specific goals(for life as an example), that are clearly defined and with a detailed plan to reach them. And if they do, the goal and subsequent plan are a well-kept secret that would be the envy of most government spy agencies.
Setting the whole goal thing aside, let's focus on the word "no." But, before we get there, how many of us are "yes" people? Often described or defined as a "people pleaser." You know, can't say "no" to any request.
I know a few, and not being able to say "no" comes back to bite them in the ass more than one would expect. Too many projects on the go; too many people(relatives) taking advantage(oh, it's okay she'll let us stay for a few days); not enough hours to complete everything that has been taken on; and finally all the bitching and complaining about it - "Oh, I'm not allowing that to happen again." But, it does.
Why?
Because they think "no" is a bad word. In their world "no" is akin to swearing and cursing. Along with that obviously, is that if you are a rabid "people pleaser", then using the word "no" sort of flies in the face of the whole "people pleasing" syndrome. Can't be a "people pleaser" and say "no" at the same time.
I learned long ago, that "no" is not a bad word.
Actually "no" exudes both strength and confidence in knowing who we are as an individual and what we require or don't require in given situations. Saying "no" in a situation that for example may be triggering or puts us in an exceedingly uncomfortable spot - "no" is the correct response.
By saying "no" you are saying "yes" to something more important to you.
"No" is empowering. It is not a bad word.
