Thompson announces 2024 Lake County Woman of the Year
"Ana Santana's leadership and commitment to education in our district is helping to set up local students for success," said Thompson. "For nearly two decades, she has worked at the Lake County Office of Education as a champion for family advocacy and services. As chair of the Lake County Children's Council and a past board member of St. Peter's Hispanic congregation, she has dramatically inspired her colleagues and those in our community. Her philanthropic efforts connect our community to a variety of initiatives, showing her passion for outreach. I am proud to recognize her as Lake County's Woman of the Year."
The Woman of the Year Recognition Ceremony was started in honor of Women's History Month to recognize the service of women in our community.
Women's History Month has its origin in California's Fourth District. In 1978, the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women coordinated a "Woman's History Week" during the week of March 8 to correspond with International Women's Day. In 1980, a group of Sonoma County women founded the National Women's History Project (NWHP) in Santa Rosa, California. The goal of this organization was to highlight and recognize the historical national achievements made by women.
In partnership with other women advocacy groups and historians, the NWHP successfully lobbied for national recognition, with President Jimmy Carter declaring the week of March 8 as National Women's History Week. After this accomplishment, the NWHP began advocating for the entire month of March to be designated as Women's History Month. Seven years later, Congress officially passed legislation designating the entire month of March as Women's History Month. Every year since, Women's History Month has been recognized in March to uplift and celebrate the incredible contributions and accomplishments of American women.

LAKEPORT
Award winning Nebula Project to perform at Soper Reese on April 10.
Award-winning New York City jazz pianist/accordionist Ben Rosenblum and his sextet, the Nebula Project, will perform an intimate concert at the Soper Reese Theatre in Lakeport.
The internationally touring multi-instrumentalist has been described as "mature beyond his years," (Sea of Tranquility), an "impressive talent" (All About Jazz), who "caresses [the music] with the reverence it merits" (Downbeat Magazine). Drawing from an eclectic repertoire which includes selections from the jazz and popular music traditions, as well as global music influences from South America, Eastern Europe, Ireland and the Caribbean, Rosenblum combines his modern, melodic sensibility with his broad knowledge of a variety of musical lineages from the past 100 years.
The band never repeats the same program twice in a row - every evening is a unique experience shaped by the audience and the setting. Ben Rosenblum Nebula Project is celebrating their February 2023 release, A Thousand Pebbles. Since the Nebula Project's first album release in 2020, Kites and Strings, The Nebula Project was voted runner-up for Best New Artist in JazzTimes' 2020 Readers' Poll, and the album received positive reviews from over twenty publications, including All About Jazz, NYC Jazz Record, JazzTimes, JazzLife (Japan) and more. Recently, the group was featured in an article in Downbeat Magazine's May 2023 issue.
This unique sextet project features prominent global music influences, as well as the incorporation of the accordion into the jazz format. This concert will be Rosenblum's fifth time performing at the Soper Reese Theatre. In the past, he has performed to full houses, both with his trio and with acclaimed Croatian vocalist Astrid Kuljanic and her band, the Transatlantic Exploration Company. Lake County has always held a special place in Ben Rosenblum's heart, ever since he first performed at the Soper Reese in 2018. This time, Rosenblum is excited to be presenting his expanded, six-person ensemble for the first time at the Soper Reese Theatre – the Ben Rosenblum Nebula Project. The concert is scheduled for April 10 at 7 p.m.
