Pasadena, MD, March 1, 2024 — Rebecca Miller has been appointed as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Hospice of the Chesapeake, a prominent not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing end-of-life care. Her tenure began on February 23, 2024, following an announcement by the organization's Board of Directors.
Nancy Smit, Chairman of the Board of Directors, praised Miller's appointment, highlighting her extensive experience in the hospice industry and her impactful tenure as the Interim CEO since December 2023. "Becky Miller's visionary leadership skills combined with 25 plus years' experience in the hospice industry including beginning her career as a hospice volunteer make her a natural fit for this new role," Smit stated. Miller's initial connection with the organization was as a hospice volunteer, which laid the foundation for her deep commitment to hospice care.
Miller embarked on her professional journey with Hospice of the Chesapeake in October 2021 as Chief Clinical Officer, before being promoted to Chief Operating Officer in December 2022. In her previous roles, she emphasized high-quality patient care experiences and led the clinical leadership team with distinction. Her vision for the future involves expanding sustainable programs that cater to the needs of the seriously ill and enhancing the regional healthcare landscape through new initiatives and innovative solutions.
Expressing her dedication to her new role, Miller stated, "I am honored to continue to serve Hospice of the Chesapeake in this new role and contribute to shaping the future of healthcare for residents of our region." She aims to strengthen existing partnerships and forge new alliances to benefit patients, their families, and the communities served by the organization.
Miller's rich background in hospice care includes serving as Chief Operating Officer at Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care in Illinois and Hope Health in Rhode Island. Her most recent position was as the Illinois Director of Hospice Operations with Advocate Aurora Health Care. A licensed clinical social worker, Miller holds both Bachelor and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of Illinois, Chicago.
Under Miller's leadership, Hospice of the Chesapeake has witnessed significant growth, expanding its services from Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties to include Calvert and Charles counties through strategic acquisitions. In 2023, the organization provided care to over 3900 hospice patients and more than 2200 supportive/palliative care patients across these four counties. Miller's focus remains on creating meaningful experiences for those living with serious, complex illnesses, ensuring that the organization continues to serve as a pillar of compassionate care in the region.
