Back in December, the South Wake Conservationists hosted an Eco Kids event with students at Joyner Elementary in Raleigh. Together the group installed a Butterfly Highway Pitstop featuring little bluestem, slender woodoats, beautyberry, blazing star, wild bergamot, ironweed, bluestar, purple coneflower, milkweed and more!!
The students plunged their hands into cow dung compost, unveiled critters beneath the soil, scattered seeds, and planted over 50 native plants. NCWF staff and chapter volunteers were onsite to teach the students about the importance of native plants and pollinators and keep garden trowel sword fighting to a minimum.
