RICHMOND, Va. – Chandler Smith secured his second consecutive NASCAR Xfinity Series victory at Richmond Raceway on Saturday, claiming the ToyotaCare 250.
Driving the No. 25 Chevrolet for GMS Racing, Smith showcased dominance throughout the race, leading 154 of the 250 laps on the challenging three-quarter-mile oval.
The 22-year-old driver from Huntington Beach, California, expressed his satisfaction after the race, stating, "This is incredible. I'm really proud of everybody at GMS Racing. We were solid all day. I felt like I gave it away last year and I'm glad we got it back this year."
Despite facing fierce competition from series regulars Noah Gragson and Austin Hill, Smith maintained his composure and skillfully navigated the challenges on the track. Gragson, driving the No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, finished second, while Hill, in the No. 11 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet, rounded out the top three.
Smith's victory marks his third career win in the Xfinity Series, with his first triumph coming at Michigan Int'l Speedway last June. His recent success has propelled him to second in the series standings, trailing only Gragson.
The ToyotaCare 250 witnessed several caution periods, including one on lap 226 for a multi-car incident involving Brandon Brown, Riley Herbst, and Jeffrey Earnhardt. Despite the challenges, Smith showcased remarkable skill and determination, maintaining his lead and crossing the finish line ahead of his competitors.
With the ToyotaCare 250 marking the seventh race of the Xfinity Series season, excitement continues to build as the series heads to Talladega Superspeedway next weekend.
