In a recent article by Claudine Wolk in Writers' Digest January/February 2024 (3 Reasons Why Authors Resist Book Marketing, and 3 Ways to Overcome that Resistance) she explains that knowing your message as one of the three fundamentals to marketing your book. The other two being knowing your audience and your hook.
Here is a Message Exercise drawn from her book you might want to use with your own book.
MESSAGE EXERCISE # 2 with permission granted by the author
Dig in deep here…take some time to think about your message and where it
might lead.
Does your book solve a problem?
Why is your book important to share?
How will your book impact the reader? How does your book make the reader
feel?
Will your book help the reader's life? In what way?
Why is sharing your message so important to you and/or to the world?
Why are you uniquely qualified to share the information in your book?
Take a few minutes and identify the three most important messages you wish
to convey with your book and then write them down:
It is never too early in the writing process to begin to market your book
