A Different Direction Sort Of For Now

March 1

Over the past few months and certainly throughout Christmas and into 2024, I've found myself arriving at a location that I wasn't prepared for. Rest assured, I'm not talking about anything major like a physical issue or anything like that.

This is more of being at a creative block or impasse as it relates to this blog.

Going through the motions of creating and hitting publish has been more or less my "modus operandi" for the past while. I've even written a post or two about it. That should tell you something.

I started "justabitfurther" back in the summer of 2016. And doing the math, that's made it about eight years of typing away sometimes daily for months on end or at other times being absent for far longer than I may have wished for.

Way back in 2016, blogging started as a way of compiling and writing about the outdoor adventures that my wife and I were undertaking. Over the years, it has delved into mental and emotional coping issues; prompt challenges; Christmas-related posts; stress reduction strategies, art that I have created, and often just some fun and nonsense posts.

During and after participating in "bloganuary" this year and then poking away at the daily WordPress prompts, it became drastically obvious(at least to me) that I was simply going through the motions for the most part when it came to creating a post. It became more of an "Oh, look at how many folks visited and took a look" strategy versus creating the best content and post possible.

Nevertheless, I'm finding it a difficult challenge to create and add worthwhile content, both to write and to read. It's not that I'm bored with blogging and with what I've done for the past eight years, it's just I think it's time for a new challenge. To push the edges of my comfort zone further out, experience new things, and further enhance what I'm already doing.

What does all this mean? Good question.

I think it's time for a new challenge or direction.

Hence "Yellow Door Art."

What is that?

Again, another good question.

As of this moment, I'm going to slightly move away from my current blog(the one you're reading at the moment) and start a new chapter or blog called Yellow Door Art

At this stage, my vision for "Yellow Door Art" could be several things.

The first(and not necessarily the prime item) is it will provide a place to show and discuss my artwork. But, along with that, I'm hoping to write and examine a variety of perspectives when it comes to the value of art; the creativity process; why art is a good thing. Just to name a few areas of topics that come to mind.

In addition, there might be an opportunity for other folks in the creative field(s) to cross-publish or do a collaborative occasion between blogs.

Now, I'm still going to publish every so often on this blog, but not with the same frequency as before. If asked, I say once a week for example; or maybe more or possibly less.

A new challenge is what I believe is required at the moment. I feel a bit stale with this blog. It feels like I've said it all(not really) and got nothing else to say(unlikely).

Let's start to finish by saying thank you to all who have been around more or less since the beginning of this particular journey. I feel as though we may be thousands of miles apart(or maybe you're just around the corner). Nevertheless, I count all as my WordPress family.

I'll still be around and like I said, I just won't be posting as much. Well, that's the plan for the moment. It could all change by tomorrow morning.

Feel free to follow me at my new spot Yellow Door Art.

Would love to see you all over there.

--as always with love--
