LATHAM, N.Y. – In an impressive display of athletic prowess, Ty Tindal, a first-year athlete from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has been named the United East Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week, marking his first accolade. The announcement from the conference office on Tuesday morning highlighted Tindal's standout performance at the recent Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College.
At the invitational held on February 3, Tindal led the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's indoor track & field team with a series of record-breaking achievements. He set three new school records and clinched second place in the pentathlon, a testament to his versatile talent across multiple disciplines.
Competing against a field of seasoned athletes, Tindal amassed 2935 points in the pentathlon, narrowly missing the top spot by just 45 points to Brandon Kiefer of Stevens Institute of Technology. His exceptional performance was highlighted by victories in two of the five pentathlon events. Tindal dominated the 60m hurdles, setting a new school record with a time of 8.89 seconds, and soared to victory in the long jump with a record-breaking leap of 6.48 meters.
Further showcasing his athletic range, Tindal secured fifth place in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.61 meters. He also placed seventh in the 1000m race, clocking in at 3:05.26, and finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 8.33 meters. These achievements underscore Tindal's contribution to the team's performance and his emerging status as a key competitor in collegiate track and field.
Tindal's outstanding results at the invitational have also elevated his standing in the Mid-Atlantic region. He now ranks 12th in the long jump with his 6.48-meter effort and holds the 20th spot in the 60m hurdles with his time of 8.89 seconds. Within the United East Conference, he is second in the 60m hurdles and fourth in the long jump, displaying his competitive edge and positioning himself as a formidable athlete.
Additionally, Tindal ranks eighth in the high jump among his conference peers, showcasing his versatility and marking him as a significant asset to the St. Mary's College track & field team. His achievements have brought individual recognition and placed St. Mary's College in the spotlight within the collegiate athletic community.
The Seahawks, bolstered by Tindal's recent successes, will take a short break from competition before heading to Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, on February 17. They are scheduled to participate in the Susquehanna University Tune-Up, which will serve as a crucial preparatory meet for the upcoming championship season. Tindal's performance at the Frank Colden Invitational has set high expectations for future competitions, as the St. Mary's community and fans eagerly anticipate his next appearance on the track.
