Downtown Woodland is about to go back in time.
Set to arrive on Saturday, Feb. 17, The Portal Marketplace and Extravaganza is a brand-new dress-up event where participants can step back in time to the Victorian and gold rush era of Woodland, and celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit that won the West.
According to a local press release, the event is completely new and the first of its kind in Woodland and Yolo County. It is part marketplace, showcasing the wares of today's entrepreneurs in a carefully curated shopping experience with special vendors at each stop along the way.
It is also a walking ghost tour with psychic Tina Pedersen. This guided walking tour will take you to different businesses coupled with Pedersen's knowledge of the area's history as well as her connection to the spiritual realm.
The Portal will also feature live crafting, the way that it was over 100 years ago.
"We will feature a fiber artist spinning and weaving, a live blacksmith, and a distillery where fresh herbal remedies are being concocted," stated Shonda Honkanen, owner of Woodland Herb Farm, Norse Herb Company, and event founder. "There is also no shortage of entertainment with an old-fashioned barbershop quartet, Sacramento's "COD" singing in harmony at several stops, live musicians playing stringed instruments in classical style and to top it off, a traditional Irish band, "Lion's of North" at the 7 p.m. afterparty at The Stag."
According to Honkanen here is also fun for the kids from noon to 2 p.m. at Corner Drug Co. with Richy Bee the One Man Circus, a vintage-style clown, as well as a stop by our barbershop quartet.
At 1:30 p.m., Mojo's Lounge will be hosting Sacramento-published author and historian, Mr. William Burg as he delivers a presentation on the Sacramento Northern Electric Train Depot.
Other cool features at Mojo's will be a patio flower and plant market with the upper Victorian balcony featuring an artists' vendor galley. They are also planning on a special feature of Edgar Allan Poe's poetry and drinks themed for him.
Soul Garden Holistic Healing will feature live harp playing by Sandra Fromm throughout the day and you can sign up for a tarot reading or healing sound bath session. The back lot behind the store will feature live crafts for viewing, including the blacksmith and the distiller.
There is no charge to attend this event, with the exception of the guided ghost tour, the tarot readings and sound healing sessions. All ages are welcome, with the exception of The Stag afterparty, which is located at 506 Main St.
This event kicks off at noon at Soul Garden Holistic Healing, located at 521 Main St., where attendees will be able to pick up a map/schedule and sign up for extras at that time.
The afterparty is at the Stag, it is also free to attend and starts at seven, but they are
The Stag will also open before the afterparty and will be participating in the day with vendors, including "Penny Dreadful Popcorn," a Victorian-themed flavored popcorn company with a real Penny Farthing Bicycle.
