LEWISBURG, Pa. – The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has recognized St. Mary's College of Maryland's men's and women's swim teams for their academic achievements, awarding them the Fall Scholar All-America Team Awards. This accolade highlights the teams' exceptional academic performance during the Fall of 2023, with St. Mary's College among the 783 teams honored nationwide.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Casey Brandt, the women's team secured their 12th Scholar All-America Team award, while the men's team achieved their ninth. Over the past eight years, Brandt's leadership has consistently steered both teams towards athletic and academic success, demonstrating the college's commitment to nurturing well-rounded student-athletes.
Qualification for this esteemed award requires teams to demonstrate outstanding academic excellence. For the Fall 2023 semester, the St. Mary's College women's team boasted a combined grade point average (GPA) of 3.29. Not to be outdone, the Seahawk men's team posted an impressive 3.24 GPA, showcasing their dedication to academic achievement alongside their athletic endeavors.
The Atlantic East Conference saw significant representation in the awards, particularly on the men's side, with three member institutions honored. Alongside St. Mary's College, Cabrini University and Marymount (Va.) Universities were acknowledged for their academic excellence, posting GPAs of 3.66 and 3.49, respectively. The women's side also featured a strong showing from the conference, with teams from Cabrini University, Marywood University, Gallaudet University, and Marymount (Va.) University achieving noteworthy GPAs, highlighting the competitive academic environment within the Atlantic East Conference.
Cabrini University's women's team set a high benchmark with a perfect 4.0 GPA, leading the conference in academic achievement. Marywood University followed closely with a 3.79 GPA, while Gallaudet University and Marymount (Va.) University also demonstrated commendable academic performance with GPAs of 3.4 and 3.39, respectively.
The CSCAA's Fall Scholar All-America Team Awards serve as a testament to the academic and athletic prowess of the institutions involved and underscore the importance of balancing educational pursuits with athletic commitments.
