1. BEING
SE Lower Michigan has given us Spring temps this week, giving me plenty of time to get outside and do things I love. Happy birthday to me!
At age 60, I'm the most free I've ever been, and it FEELS GOOD.
My health isn't excellent; it's a daily struggle to manage symptoms from Relapsing Polychondritis, but I focus on finding joy and having fun each day, whether housebound or free to roam. In 2023, I paddled 26 bodies of water over 59 outings in my kayak. I took my last paddle of the year on December 30! I can't wait to get back on the water!
My bike's in the shop right now; I'm getting new handlebars installed that will enable me to sit fully upright--and hopefully allow me to ride without neck and shoulder pain.
I can't walk on pavement; the impact--even from 20 minutes--is too much for my joints, and it wrecks me, BUT I can still hike for hours on our sweet Mother Earth--and I do a couple of times a week, at least.
The forecast calls for a high temp near 60 today, so I may be enjoying my first paddle of the year while you read this! Even if I can't find open water, you know I'll be outside!
I hope you'll join me in celebrating life in your own way today!
I plan to return to making posts, though I haven't decided how often. I think about it quite often, but I've focused on journaling over the past year as old identities fade, and I find myself anew, without obligations to employer, children, or spouse. I really enjoy writing on paper, in private, for an audience of one--but I miss you, too. I was surprised to see the stats for the end-of-year summary of Citizen Teacher, because I wrote almost nothing in 2023, but readers have been visiting old posts. That made me happy and motivated me to return to the keyboard to invite you to my birthday celebration.
Thanks for reading, friend.
May we be happy; may we be well;
May we be free from suffering;
May we be at peace.
