Let's just cut to the chase since you are probably reading this in an absolute panic with a dying cell phone battery.
Clear the area around your fire of debris. If it is wet or snow, put rocks on ground first then build fire on top.
Tinder - dry grass, leaves, shaved innards from bark and other minuscule and easily flammable materials. Pile this crap on the bottom in the middle.
Kindling - small sticks and twigs that will catch quickly. Pile this crap around the tinder and a lot of it. You need this to stay lit long enough to catch the larger materials on fire.
A totally unnecessary but lit photo!
Now place larger materials over this stuff like a tee pee tent. It should allow good air to reach the smaller materials and the flames and heat will rise up to catch the big stuff on fire.
Watch the wind and play to it. For example, if the wind is blowing to the left stand on the left when lighting and let the wind move the flame towards the materials.
Always gather way more than you think you need, especially if you need to keep this going through the night.
Straight up, if it is actively raining or has recently it is going to be a lot harder but it is doable. Shave insides of bark for tinder, try to find materials that have been somewhat covered from the rain, just be smart about it.
Don't forget to put the damn fire out before you leave. Smokey the Bear is gangsta. You can run but you can't hide.
