We all have those days in the blogging realm of things. Maybe we've even experienced more than just one day - perhaps it's been a few days or longer.
Of what you're asking?
Of not having anything to say.
Before we go on, I should say, that I might actually have plenty to say, but there is a good chance much of it isn't terribly useful or helpful for "hitting publish" on WordPress.
I must admit, and before we go on, I think not having much to say this particular Monday morning is due in large part to being so exhausted from our birthday weekend in Halifax.
All joking aside, many of us(I would assume so) hit those "blank wall days" every once in a while.
Those days when you desperately want to write and hit publish on a post, but for the life of you can't nail a topic to post about. For some strange reason, the writing and creating well are a tad dry on those mornings.
That's me this morning.
So what do you do? What can you do to help fill the writing and creative well to at least some arbitrary and imaginary minimum level to get those creative juices flowing again?
The easiest approach might simply be, to go to WordPress Reader and search "What to do when you hit a blogging wall?" and see what comes up.
Here's how yours truly approaches it(most times - but not always......hey I'm not perfect).
- don't beat yourself up to the point you're a bloody mess. It's just one day. Forgive yourself.
- take a break and try something new to generate a few ideas. Grab a notebook head out to a local coffee bar and challenge yourself to brainstorm and write down 50 possible topics in TEN TO FIFTEEN MINUTES. There are no wrong answers here - you got 12 to 18 seconds for each one.
- choose a category you've blogged about in the past - that really excites you or floats your boat.......now write down quickly three possible posts that would fit in that category. You may not actually complete the posts, but often this simple act, can unplug the creative stream and get things flowing again.
- use WordPress Stats for your blog to see what the most popular posts in terms of views over some time have been. Maybe you'll see a trend emerge and use those results to help spur a few new ideas. Below I've shared a screen capture of the first dozen or so most popular posts for myself(all time) - they are ALL outdoor adventure trip report related. That should tell me something?
- write a post or two about a hobby or skill you might have that you never thought worthy of blogging about. Perhaps you're a wizard in the kitchen - share a favourite recipe; maybe you really enjoy a certain genre of music - so share about your favourite band or musician?

So, there you go.
What started as a "got nothing for you today" post, turned into a post on what to do when "got nothing for you today."
Often the simple act of just starting to type, even if you have NO IDEA where it might start, let alone even go, is enough to get the creative juices flowing.
Even when the creative stream appeared to be "all dried up."
--as always with love--
--- get outdoors; find inspiration; discover yourself ---
