The Davis Musical Theatre Company will be holding auditions for their production of "Mary Poppins Jr."
Set in England in 1910, young Jane and Michael Banks have sent many nannies packing before Mary Poppins shows up on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again.
"Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren't the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect," a press release from DMTC said. "Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that 'Anything Can Happen If You Let It Happen.'"
Auditions are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 8 or Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 4:30 p.m. at the Jean Henderson Performing Arts Center, located at 607 Pena Dr. in Davis. Call backs will be the following day on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the same location.
Those interested in auditioning should bring a prepared song that is not from "Mary Poppins," sheet music with piano accompaniment and be prepared for cold readings. All roles are open and may be performed by an actor of any gender.
"Mary Poppins Jr." will open on Friday, March 9, 2024.

The Pence Gallery will be hosting a new exhibit titled "Day to Night" which will feature work from Christina Kent.
In this new series of oil paintings, Kent expands upon her observations of everyday life in the city.
"As a resident of San Francisco, Kent is interested in going beyond celebrating well-known locations and views, to capture intimate scenes of daily life," said the Pence's website. "In her paintings, restaurant workers prepare dishes, friends catch up on the street and drivers navigate traffic down a steep hillside. She builds these compositions with an eye to the subtle nuances of light and shadow, using gestural brushwork to reveal the changes in the landscape from morning until night."
The exhibit is sponsored by Rosa Marquez and Yatish Mishra, as part of the Pence Emerging Artist Award.
"Day to Night" will be open at the Pence Gallery from Jan. 9 to Feb. 29. An opening reception will be held Jan. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Manetti Shrem Museum of Art will host the work of UC Davis Professor of Art Shiva Ahmadi.
"Strands of Resilience" is Ahmadi's first midcareer solo museum exhibition on the West Coast and focuses on the female figure, continuing her exploration of alternate worlds where women have agency beyond the binary of the beautiful victim or ugly villain.
"Ahmadi uses painting as a form of storytelling, combining luminous colors and mystical beings with violent imagery to draw attention to global issues of migration, war and brutality against marginalized peoples," the website said. "Through her experimentation with the medium of watercolor, Ahmadi probes what lies hidden beneath the surface of the stories we are told, from ancient myths and childhood memories to the current news cycle."
Ahmadi's work will be on display from Jan. 28 to May 6.
Center Stage is a column exploring the arts in and around Yolo County.
