What makes a good leader?
Leaders come in all shapes and forms.
In my own experience, the worst quality a leader can show and have is to lead through fear and intimidation. So much energy that could be better directed to moving a company or situation forward in a positive format, unfortunately, gets wasted in ways the leader uses to instill fear and intimidation in those they are supposed to be an example and leader of.
On the other hand, a good leader has and exhibits those qualities that make those they are leading to want to follow them.
Leaders in this situation have a clear vision of where they are going. They have developed excellent communication skills to ensure that those in their care know where they are headed. Good leaders work hard to ensure that those on their team have all that they require and more to make sure that they can do the jobs and work and perform at the highest levels possible.
Leaders in this group lead by example. They are willing to get in there and get their hands dirty so to speak. While at the same time, they allow those with them, to simply get the job done. Good leaders know that they hire people for a purpose. They allow them to get on with the job they were hired for. Good leaders don't micro-manage.
Good leaders motivate and inspire others. They give all to see others become the very best that they can be in any given situation.
Finally, good leaders are accountable. They own their mistakes and the "buck stops with them." Good leaders do not "throw subordinates under the bus" - they are accountable for what happens.
