In a recent Board Governance meeting, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors approved a total of $75,000 in projects using the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Community Benefit Fund.
The meeting, a platform for discussing ordinances, budgets, and departmental needs, highlighted significant allocations for District 5 under the leadership of Supervisor Angel Barajas, who represents north and east Woodland, including the 10 rural towns in Yolo County.
Earlier this year, in July, the Board approved a motion to allocate ARP funds to each supervisorial district, up to $150,000.
Out of the eight proposals presented, a notable seven were approved specifically in Woodland and rural communities, reflecting the commitment to address local needs and enhance community welfare.
"It's crucial for these initiatives to receive the support they need to make impactful changes in our community," Barajas said. "These proposals came directly from the community, reflecting the needs and aspirations of our residents. The approved funding ensures that we're making good use of our resources to uplift and improve the lives of our constituents."
Projects directly benefiting District 5 include:
- Knights Landing Garden Project: A $5,000 investment to support the establishment of a community garden, fostering local engagement and sustainable practices.
- California Agricultural Museum Expansion: Allocating $10,000 to enhance STEM exhibits, promoting education and innovation within the community.
- Leisureville Senior Mobile Home Park HVAC Upgrade: A $10,000 investment to improve HVAC systems at Leisureville Senior Mobile Home Park, ensuring senior residents' comfort and well-being.
- Woodland Food Closet Enhancement: $5,000 directed towards increasing available food services at the Woodland Food Closet, addressing food insecurity in the community.
- Woodland Alianza FC Scholarship Program: Allocating $10,000 to Woodland Alianza FC to provide scholarships, promoting inclusivity, and access to sports for local youth.
- Center for Land Based Learning's Healthy Foods Access Improvement: A $10,000 investment to enhance access to healthy foods, aligning with the community's well-being goals.
- Farmworker Financial Assistance Program Support: A $15,000 allocation to the Farmworker Financial Assistance Program, providing essential aid to support local farmworkers.
Additionally, the board approved an agreement with Thriving Pink to support individuals and families in Yolo County impacted by breast cancer, allocating $10,000. This initiative was championed by both Supervisor Jim Provenza and Supervisor Lucas Frerichs, which demonstrates the county's commitment to addressing health challenges and offering assistance to those affected by breast cancer.
These approved projects highlight the board's commitment to strategic investments that directly impact and uplift the county. The increased ARP funds demonstrate a proactive approach to addressing pressing community needs and fostering growth and well-being for all residents in Yolo County.
