The number of days left in 2023 is quickly coming to an end.
In fact, it has just about ended, seeing as we only have today left. December 31st - New Year's Eve.
Looking back it is hard to fathom where the days have gone? Nevertheless, today is today, tonight is New Year's Eve and tomorrow will be January 1. All with those inevitable folks suffering through a fuzzy haze enveloping their body and ..........agonizingly jumping in with reckless abandon to get a head start on 2024.
None of this should come as a huge shock. That's kind of how it's been going pretty much since calendars, New Year's Eve, and the whole celebrating of it found its way into the holiday season.
Within the blogging world, or at least those who pound away at the keys to crank out posts regularly, I suspect New Year's Eve is much the same as it might be for everyone else.
Some will head on out with friends/family to ring in the new year; others may have some sort of small/big blow-out party at home; others may do simply nothing; and yes - some may have to work.
One thing that many bloggers post on or near the new year is some sort of reflective piece on "the year that was." Now, it goes without saying that not all bloggers do this. Hazarding a guess, I suspect that the vast majority of bloggers DO NOT "hit publish" with anything that closely resembles a "year in the end review." But, some do, including yours truly.
I'm no expert when it comes to creating a gem of a "reflective year-in-review post." In the past I've done reflective posts of mostly text with a few pictures; others have ended up being more pictures and less text; while others have been almost exclusively pictures. Some have been "year-end" summaries focusing on my favourite posts over the previous year; others on what has transpired in our lives; and some combination of both.
Seeing as bloggers are just simple folks like you and me, the reasons for punching out these "year-end treatises" can be and will be as varied as those who wrote them. Unfortunately, given the nature of being human, there will be a few for whom the "year-end" thing is nothing more than another post to collect "likes; comments, and such" used to garner a greater presence within "the operating system of the blogosphere." And I suppose there is nothing inherently wrong with that. It doesn't really hurt anyone, and if that is someone's approach - so be it.
But isn't the key word in this "reflective or reflection?" Forgetting about blogging and posting the damn thing on January 1 for the moment, isn't the purpose of this type of reflective/reflection activity .........to look back at where we were; take away lessons learned and then use all of that to move forward.
To hopefully be in a better place 365 days from now? To learn and grow?
This isn't my "year-in-review" post - although it's starting to take on that appearance.
Look back............reflect on it...........learn from it.............move forward.
