Over the past number of months or so, I tried at various times to experiment with different art and acrylic outcomes.
Lynn had suggested at one point to make ornaments, painted on plastic or acrylic discs. Not just Christmas or holiday-related ones, but other styles or scenes as well that might be more suitable for other times of the year.
With such enthusiastic support, I ordered a package of 4-inch clear acrylic discs from Amazon, with the grand intention of heading down the trail of ornament creation.
We have some lovely shelves in a variety of cabinets in our art room. Once the ornaments arrived on our doorstep, I managed to find a suitable locale for them to reside, untouched for several months.
Despite the apparent lack of a fast "out of the gate" approach, I did manage to complete a couple of suitable Christmas ornaments, with this one being the best of the lot.
One thing I did discover, is undertaking the detail is much easier and simpler if you can get a couple of coats or layers of some suitable background colour on the disc first. Once the background is dry, the detail portion is much easier to apply.
I personally find that pieces like these discs or some watercolour gift tags that I've done in the past are best tackled when they are exceeedingly simple to complete. This particular one has a very simple design and is relatively quick from start to finish. You're just limited to how fast the paint dries(using a hair dryer - speeds up the process considerably).
Once they are completely dry, the surface can treated with a clear acrylic sealant to provide a level of protection to the painted side of the disc.
I do like the way this one worked out. Over the next few days, I'll see if I can come up with one or two other designs that might work as well.
