Late last month, MOSAIC Children's Museum invited donors, tradesmen, artists and community leaders to a "Thank You" preview of the soon-to-be-open museum.
Made possible by a grant from Dignity Health and served by MOSAIC's friends at Omega Nu of Woodland, guests were treated to an array of finger foods and beverages during the Nov. 30 event at the museum located at 120 Main St.
The main treat, however, was seeing all the fun and colorful exhibits that will delight and inspire the children who will play here.
According to a MOSAIC press release, after years of effort, the museum is ready to open its doors to Woodland, Yolo County and the surrounding areas on Friday, Dec.15.
This is the realization of a vision that began in the hearts of a small group of people in 2016. A description of the museum's vision is "a deep discontent with what is, combined with a clear grasp of what could be." It is also said that "vision without action is just a dream."
This preview party was a tribute to everyone involved who took on the work to put action to the vision and made it a reality.
The "A-Team" of donors include Clark Pacific, The Rotary of Woodland, Kitchen Mart, Meg and Tom Stallard, Tom Stephenson, Oliver Kreylos, Omega Nu, Ag West, Joe Jimenez, Dowling Foundation, Dignity Health and Kiwanis Club.
"Our hats are off to you, and we challenge this community to continue to support MOSAIC in the future," the release stated.
"We are extremely excited to see our area children have this valuable learning experience here in our own community," stated MOSAIC Board Vice President Dave Mata. "Children's museums have been a proven asset, not only in partnering with area teachers in educating children but also to the culture and business environment in the communities where they are located. We are very grateful to our generous donors, craftsmen and artists for joining us in this good work!"
Oliver Kreylos a researcher at UC Davis, shared that the Augmented Virtual Reality Sand Table was developed through the Geology Department at the university.
"While its focus was primarily on Hydrology and Topography, the lessons it offers are endless," Kreylos stated. "From simple map reading and gravity lessons to more complex principles of physics, there are things children of all ages can learn and get curious about."
MOSAIC, which stands for Museum of Science, Art, Imagination and Creativity, will provide irresistible learning experiences delivered through exhibits, programs and resources, especially in the areas of Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Math or STREAM.
